Musician, Composer, Arranger
Passionate, energetic, poetic and intimate are a few of the accolades used to describe the talent of this seasoned professional. Her music has been praised by Essence magazine’s Susan Taylor and veteran jazz bassist Stanley Clarke. As a jazz musician/composer, Cay Fatima has performed at the Jackie Robinson Foundation’s 10th Anniversary “Afternoon In Jazz”, and various tri-state areas' jazz clubs such as Birdland, S.O.B.’s, Honeysuckle’s, Soul Café, Cornbread & Caviar and Manhattan Proper. With the Senegalese group Roots Talibes, she has appeared on ABC-TV’s In Concert, when they opened for Kenny Loggins at a United Nations multi-cultural celebration. As co-producer of the jazz group Real Time’s CD “Before The Storm”, Cay provided keyboard expertise as well as co-writing several of the selections on the CD. Multi-instrumentalist, Cay Fatima enjoys playing piano, but also flute, guitar, bass, and percussion. Her one-woman-shows “Everybody Is A Star” and "Heart and Soul" features her talents on all of these instruments, which include vocals. Ms. Fatima is in the pre-production stage of Real Time's follow-up CD "After The Storm". Her current collection of poetry is entitled, “Close Calls and Canyons”, which is a unique collection of poems, songs and words that is recently being adapted for musical theater. In addition, a jazzy children’s poem “Can Cats Cry” she has developed into an illustrated book for youngsters of all ages.
Engagements include the Thanksgiving Luncheon for the Nassau County Legislature, The Donna Hill Book’s In My Bedroom and Getting Hers Launch Parties, The Romance Writer's Slam Jam Convention, The County of Nassau Office of Minority Affairs Black History Celebration, and the "Heart & Soul" performances for various History Month Celebrations at the Lakeview and West Hempstead Public Libraries, "People, Places, Politics" photo exhibit and at the Long Beach, Freeport and Rockville Centre Public Libraries, "Baby Grand" jazz series Hartford Public Library, BET Books launch parties for Donna Hill's Sizzling Sands and Simon and Schuster's release of Essence.Com's editor-on-chief, Stephanie Stokes- Oliver's Song For My Father.
